The term "tune-up" dates back to when Henry Ford was working on his first automobile. Today's vehicles don't require "tune-ups" per se, but require routine maintenance for optimum performance. Auto manufacturers have developed recommend maintenance schedules that specify intervals for maintenance items such as the replacement of spark plugs and filters, checking or adjusting the ignition timing and idle, as well as all other items related to engine operation and exhaust components.
